Baseball Season Preview
Dave Rosengrant - Times Leader

Nanticoke (4A)
Coach: Joe Yudichak
2017 WVC record: 3-10 (lost in District 2 quarterfinals)
Home Field: High School

Key Returning Players: Kris Rynkiewicz, Sr.; Trahjan Krupinski, Jr.; Derek Kurkowski, Sr.; Tyler Pokrinchak, Jr.; Austin Norton, Jr.; Evan Stecco, Sr.

Outlook: Unfortunately for the Trojans, they were the team that was left out of the cluster of last year’s standings. This year, they return a nice core of players led by Rynkiewicz, who led the team in hitting last season with a .350 average. Meanwhile, Butczynski led the team in appearances on the mound. With another year of experience, the Trojans should be able to improve on last year’s mark.

Steve Bennett - Citizens Voice

Nanticoke Area
Classification: 4A
Coach: Joe Yudichak

Looking back: Finished 3-11. Lost to Dallas in opening round of district playoffs.

Players to watch: Kris Rynkiewicz (.341), Colby Butczynski (0-4, 4.58 ERA), Trahjan Krupinski (.243, 9 RBIs), Evan Stecco (five relief appearances).

Looking ahead: The Trojans will be another in a group of WVC teams that are going to be young this season. The Trojans have just three seniors on the roster and are carrying four freshmen and six sophomores. Butczynski is one of those sophomores and is the only pitcher on staff that started a game last year. Butczynski had four starts and tossed 26 innings, and did record a save. None of the pitchers in the rotation this year have a varsity win to their credit. The Trojans hit .199 as a team last year and had five extra base hits. Rynkiewicz was the lone player to hit over .300.
