WVC Baseball Preview: Area teams ready to take the field
Steve Bennett - Citizens Voice
Nanticoke Area
Classification: 4A
Head coach: Joe Yudichak
Looking back: Finished 4-10. Lost to Valley View, 12-2, in the first round of the district playoffs.
Players to watch: Jake Krupinski, (.281); Trahjan Krupinski, (.273); Tyler Pokrinchak, (.250); Collin Brown, (.200); Derek Cease, (3-2, 4.70); Colby Butczynski, (1-1, 3.32); Devland Heffron, (0-1, 5.53).
What to watch for: The Trojans certainly have the pitching depth heading into the new season. Cease and Butczynski combined for all four wins last season. The staff does need to improve its walk to strikeout ration of 64-51. As a freshman Cease opened some eyes around the conference with his play in the field. His bat figures to improve with a year of varsity experience under his belt. The Trojans are going to have to figure out a way to score runs. Last year they were shutout four times, and scored two or fewer runs four times.
