Fire Prevention Week
at K.M. Smith
The Nanticoke and Newport Fire Departments visited K.M. Smith
School in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District. The students were shown
a video on Fire Prevention. A Nanticoke fireman discussed two ways out of a room,
an exit plan, smoke alarms, crawling through smoke, 911, and stop, drop, and roll.
Ash, the fire dog, also visited the children. Teachers and firemen dressed up
in the firemen's protective suits to show the children what a fireman looks and
sounds like up close. Students also got to visit the "Smokehouse." Here,
students could walk, crawl, and climb out of a simulated house fire. First row,
from left, are Ryan Amos, Brody Bienkowski, Gregory Gryzmski, and Ian Verazin.
Second Row: Len Paczkowski, Paul Mierzwa, Jim Hoffman, Keith Munson, Greg Grzymski,
John Polifka, Mark Boncal, and Jared Whittaker.
