Trojanettes win Division II Field Hockey
title!
Citizens Voice
Nanticoke Area's field hockey season began with hopes of getting postions
settled and working on improving on its third place finish from 2008.
On Wednesday, the Trojanettes ended the regular
season with even better results than they had planned - a Division
II title.
Liz Dougherty scored on a rebound in the second
half, lifting Nanticoke to a 1-0 victory over Abington Heights for
the Division II championship. The Trojanettes are 9-5-1 and went undefeated
against division foes.
"To be honest, this wasn't a main goal
because we were worried about positioning and getting people settled,"
Nanticoke coach Lori Dennis said. "I am so proud of this team
because they stepped up and surprised a lot of people.
"The girls were on the same page with
each other and they supported each other and that went a long way
for us."
Kati Nearhouse assisted the game-winner, while
Alex Gorski made one save in goal for Nanticoke. Abington keeper Megan
Conaboy had eight saves in goal for Abington.
"We still need to work on our agressiveness,"
Dennis said. "We didn't play our best today and they didn't come
off celebrating. Abington totally took us by surprise."
