Valley View falls to Trojans

The Trojans had 8 falls, including four straight in the upper weights, in overwhelming Valley View.
Kyle Koviak (125), Aaron Mulhern (135), Brandon Novakoski (140), Joe Wentz (152), Bob Bond (171), Dan Paveletz (189), Jeremy Mitkowski (215) and Joe Bond (285) all registered pins for NA while Brandon Jimmerson fashioned a major decision at 119.

Nanticoke Area defeats Meyers.

That’s a sentence that you never would have read in a wrestling story until last week.
One week ago today, the Trojans traveled to the historic gym in South Wilkes-Barre and pulled out their first win in school history over the Mohawks with a 38-24 victory.
It also marked the first Wyoming Valley Conference Division II win for the Trojans (1-2 division, 6-12 overall) since beating Hanover Area last season.
“It was a real good meet with a big-meet atmosphere down there,” said Nanticoke coach Joe Ebert, who is in the process of turning the program around. “They kept a smile on my face for about two days after that.”
Even though the Mohawks are in a rebuilding year and without a win, it still marked a special moment for Ebert and the Nanticoke program that has struggled in the last few years.
“I knew they weren’t as strong as past years,” Ebert said about Meyers. “But you’re wrestling at Meyers and I don’t care what team it is, they are always really tough at home.”
The Trojans’ top wrestlers this season are 119-pounder Brandon Jimmerson (16-2), 189-pounder Jeremy Mitkowski (13-5), 135-pounder Aaron Mulhern (12-5) and Dan Paveletz’s 8-3 mark at 171.

Trojans win first-ever victory over Meyers

At Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke Area won seven straight bouts, including two by fall, in registering the Trojans first-ever wrestling victory over Meyers.
Aaron Mulhern and Brandon Novakoski registered pins for the Trojans.

Outlook: Optimism is running high in the wrestling room this season and for good reason. In just Ebert's second full season, the numbers have risen from a handful of wrestlers to this year's total of 24. Twenty-three of them are returning from last year's squad, including Jimmerson and Paveletz, who both were fifth at districts last year. The Trojans also have Jeremy Mitkowski, who recently placed third in the district and regional eastern national open tournaments in Salisbury, Md. Ebert expects those three to "make some noise" at districts. Mulhern, Novakoski and Bob Bond can also be dark horses when it comes time for the postseason tournaments.
As a team, Nanticoke will have trouble against the bigger programs, but a few upsets loom on the horizon.
Coach's Comments: "I'm very excited this year. I really expect to improve on last season's record. Am I going to compete with Berwick or Lake-Lehman? No, but we can definitely compete in the division if we stay strong and don't get injured. We've been trying to build interest here and I think with the number we have, we have done that and now we can build off that."
