Nanticoke Area names Bertoni baseball coach
By Steve Bennett Staff Writer

Bob Bertoni has been involved with athletics in the Nanticoke Area School District for the last 10 years. Thursday night, he was named the school's new head baseball coach.
Bertoni, who coaches the Nanticoke Junior American Legion baseball team, was unanimously named to take over for Jim Rhinehammer, who stepped down following the completion of the 2005 season.
Last year the Trojans finished the season 11-6 and lost to Montrose in the semifinals of the District 2 playoffs. The season before, the Trojans advanced to the state tournament.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to coach baseball at Nanticoke Area and in the Wyoming Valley Conference," Bertoni said. "I'm hoping to keep the program moving forward."
With his extensive knowledge of the players in the program, Bertoni is figuring the transition should be a smooth one. He has been a coach on the Little League and collegiate levels and serves as the umpire in chief for District 16 Little League.
As a softball coach at LCC, Bertoni was twice named the conference's Coach of the Year.
"Every player in the program I have coached at some point during their baseball careers," Bertoni said. "They are familiar with me and I am familiar with them. I have been fortunate to be around several people who are very knowledgeable baseball people. I plan on taking a little bit of everything I have learned and applying it at Nanticoke Area.
